Another Massacre unfolded in Elfarsher

Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) strongly condemns the brutal and deliberate attack carried out today by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a displacement camp in El-Fasher, North Darfur. The camp was a site where thousands of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, had been sheltering after months under siege in El-Fasher. This attack is a clear affront to international laws, and the RSF must be held accountable for its actions. We are extremely outraged by not only the deliberate attack on civilians but by the lack of serious accountability measures from the international community for systemic RSF crimes

According to initial reports from humanitarian monitors and local sources, on October 10th, heavy shelling and drone strikes struck the Abu Shouk displacement camp, killing and injuring scores of civilians and destroying shelters, food storage areas, and emergency medical facilities. According to the reports by the Sudanese Doctors’ Network, 57 people have been killed in the drone attack. Many of the victims are women and children (reportedly 17 women and 17 children have been killed) who had already been displaced multiple times and were living in desperate conditions, trapped due to the ongoing siege of El-Fasher by the RSF. The attack has forced survivors to flee once again, with no safe passage out of the city.

This latest atrocity comes just days after the horrific RSF drone strike on a mosque in El-Fasher, which killed and injured dozens of worshippers during dawn prayers. Together, these attacks reveal a clear and escalating pattern of genocidal violence and demonstrate how impunity and international inaction embolden the perpetrators to continue carrying out such horrific crimes with total disregard for civilian life.

The deliberate bombing of a displacement camp, a place meant to provide refuge for those fleeing violence, constitutes a war crime and a continuation of the genocidal campaign that has targeted the people of Darfur for over two decades. Since 2003, more than 300,000 civilians have been killed and millions displaced. Today, over 260,000 people remain trapped under siege in El-Fasher, cut off from food, medicine, and aid as famine and disease spread rapidly. This attack demonstrates that even those seeking safety in camps are not spared, underscoring the RSF’s deliberate strategy to destroy the fabric of Darfuri civilian life.

DWAG is deeply alarmed by the international community’s continued silence and inaction, which only fuels further atrocities. The attack on Abu Shouk camp is not an isolated incident but part of a coordinated campaign of terror aimed at annihilating Darfur’s civilian population.

In response to this atrocity, DWAG calls on the international community to act immediately:

DWAG stands in unwavering solidarity with the victims and survivors of this devastating attack. We reaffirm our commitment to fighting for justice, accountability, and the protection of civilians in Darfur and across Sudan.

DWAG calls on all international and regional actors to uphold their moral and legal obligations. The people of Sudan, and especially the women and children of Darfur, must not be abandoned again.

With Gratitude,
Niemat Ahmadi
