Policy and Advocacy
DWAG does policy and advocacy work on many levels to help women have a voice in decisions that affect their lives and communities. Our work focuses on informing, educating, and raising awareness about the realities facing women and communities affected by war and displacement in Sudan.
We believe that women affected by conflict should shape the decisions that affect their lives.
Advocacy Priority
Atrocity Prevention and Justice:
DWAG documents and exposes human rights violations, including gender-based violence, to advance accountability and justice. The organization is developing a gender-sensitive atrocity prevention framework that prioritizes civilian protection, humanitarian access, and accountability as essential prerequisites for sustainable political settlement. This framework informs advocacy efforts aimed at influencing international and regional approaches to resolving the crisis in Sudan.
In 2024, DWAG launched an international advocacy initiative to develop and promote a comprehensive advocacy framework reflecting the priorities and demands of Sudanese communities. The initiative advocates for the adoption of an atrocity prevention approach to peacebuilding that places accountability, human rights, gender equality, and international legal standards at the center of all mediation and peace processes.
Advocacy Priority
International Policy Engagement
The organization regularly engages with institutions including the United Nations Security Council, United Nations Human Rights Council, African Union, U.S. Department of State, European Union, and other international stakeholders. Through policy briefings, strategic recommendations, and direct engagement, DWAG works to ensure that the voices and priorities of conflict-affected communities, particularly women and historically marginalized groups, shape international policy responses to Sudan.

To advance this objective, DWAG is facilitating a national network of grassroots women leaders, internally displaced women, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and human rights defenders to develop a unified women’s agenda and engage with national, regional, and international policymakers.
