Our Impact
From displacement camps in Darfur to international policy forums, our work connects local communities with global decision-makers. We support women and girls affected by conflict, document human rights abuses, strengthen local leadership, and advocate for protection, accountability, and peace.
Over the past 15 years, DWAG has worked extensively on preventing genocide and gender-based violence through direct intervention and protection programs with access to justice in Sudan and in the diaspora — advancing women’s rights through policy advocacy, protecting human rights defenders, and monitoring and documenting GBV incidents. We advocate for accountability for serious international crimes committed in Darfur, including crimes against women across Sudan.
DWAG puts women survivors first, creating a platform for policymakers to hear directly from those most impacted by crisis. Despite its recent history, DWAG has helped shape women’s rights, atrocity prevention, and the broader human rights debate by placing Sudanese women at the center of decision-making on a global stage. We have maintained operations on the ground despite a volatile situation and limited resources, uplifting the forgotten voices of women in Sudan.
During the current war, DWAG has been on the ground providing emergency humanitarian and protection programs, protecting human rights defenders, engaging women and civil society organizations in capacity building and leadership development, facilitating dialogue and networking, and organizing forums to develop a unified Sudanese women’s agenda — ensuring that women’s protection, inclusion, and participation are prioritized during the crisis and the post-conflict transformation to come.
