Who we are
Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) is a women-led anti-atrocities nonprofit organization with a 501(c)(3) status, founded in 2009 by a Darfur genocide survivor to empower and amplify voices of women and the conflict-affected and historically excluded Sudanese people to enable them to champion their causes and work collectively to foster sustainable social change in Sudan, regionally and internationally.

Our Mission
DWAG works for the protection and empowerment of women and all people affected by conflict, violence, human rights abuses, genocide, gender-based violence and marginalization in Sudan. Its priorities include accountability for atrocities and inclusive policy responses so that marginalized conflict-affected communities—particularly women—are both protected from human rights abuses and directly represented in decision-making.

Our Approach
If civil society and women from historically marginalized Sudanese communities become empowered, acquire more capacity, and receive resources and a platform to influence duty bearers, then policymakers, stakeholders, and the international community will develop informed policy decisions that include their priority needs, issues, and agendas in all frameworks designed to resolve the crises in Sudan.
Rights-based
Document and respond to incidents of sexual violence and other human rights violations and persons impacted by conflict, violence and atrocities.
Survivor-centered
We ceates safe spaces for women survivors with access to trauma counseling, psychosocial support, referral, sexual and reproductive health services, and training on other coping mechanisms.
Participatory
Community members are partners in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities — increasing credibility and trust the only path to durable, sustainable change.
Culturally competent
Knowledge of the context, the culture, language, and relevant issues gives DWAG the advantage of being more effective in responding to local needs and priorities.
